Renamed as Sri Aurobindo Lane

After a 7-year long effort by our founder Shri Surendra Nath Jauhar, the 7 km-long road from Safdarjung Tomb to Mehrauli was named Sri Aurobindo Marg about 50 years ago. It became a major arterial road as Delhi expanded, the traffic on the road increased, and it posed a risk to the traffic to have the main entry to the Ashram (Gate No. 3) on that road. Therefore, we shifted the entry to the side lane opposite Sarvodaya Enclave.

In April 2011, we started making an effort to get this side lane named as Sri Aurobindo Lane. We are happy to share with you that finally now, during Sri Aurobindo's 150th Birth Anniversary, the Government has renamed the lane, and the board was finally put up on 28th October, 2022.

On the morning of 15th November 2022, Tara Didi and her team went to meet Shri Nitin Gadkari ji - the Hon'ble Minister for Road Transport & Highways - Government of India, to request the following three points:

1. Expedite the naming of the road leading to Madhuban as Sri Aurobindo Sarani (श्री अरव िंद सरणी ) which has already been sanctioned.

2. Support for the appeal to change the name of village Talla Ramgarh to Sri Aurobindo Gram (श्री अरव िंद ग्राम ) or as Aurogram (औरोग्राम).

Tara Didi's meeting with Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami,

the Hon'ble CM of Uttarakhand on 25 November 2022

Tara didi, with her two colleagues, Dr. Anju Khanna (in-charge of Madhuban) and Ms. Oindrilla Bhatnagar (in-charge of yoga, youth, adventure and study camps) went to meet Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Hon'ble CM of Uttarakhand on 25 November 2022, during his visit to Delhi.

The three key points were discussed with him were:

1. Upon the request of Sri Aurobindo Ashram - Delhi branch on the occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sri Aurobindo, the Govt of India kindly sanctioned to name the 8-km long road connecting Madhuban Ashram to Halli, in Talla Ramgarh, as Sri Aurobindo Sarani.

The team requested Shri Dhami to help in expediting the repair work of the road, which was heavily damaged due to the cloudburst in October 2021.

2. We also requested that Ramgarh (Both Talla and Malla) in Uttrakhand may be kindly renamed Aurogram. This would also reduce confusion because there are seven places by the name of Ramgarh in the country.

3. We also requested that the Ramgarh area, which is a fruit belt, be declared as a model village and the necessary upgradation be made.
