Many social initiatives have been undertaken by Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi branch with special emphasis to support the schools in rural areas to promote Integral education and its understanding for overall development of the children at physical, emotional, mental and spiritual level.

Some of our initiatives are:

Over the years we are increasing our reach to the number of schools and teachers across the country through these workshops and social initiatives.

All of this is provided to them along with free board and lodging in the Ashram premises at New Delhi.

  • A Sponsorship & Scholarship program with the sole aim of uplifting the under privileged children by arming them with the most precious tool - education. In the year 2018, we sponsored 200+ children across many schools in India.

IE & INTEGRAL HEALTH AND PHYSICAL FITNESS WORKSHOP

Sri Aurobindo and The Mother believed that of all the domains of human consciousness, physical is the one completely governed by method, order, discipline and process. This is precisely the reason why games and sports from an integral part of school curriculum. But sadly most of the schools in rural areas cannot afford good quality sports equipment and even their teachers are not trained. To fill this gap Sri Aurobindo Ashram Delhi Branch proposes to conduct Integral Health and Physical Fitness Workshop for schools in the rural India.

We propose to conduct well structured Integral Health and Physical Fitness workshop for teachers from rural schools. This objective of this program is to provide extensive training that our teachers have developed over many years of practice in our schools and provide good quality sports equipment worth Rs 25,000 -30,000 to each school.

Our Focus Areas:

  • Enhance physical fitness and agility in the kids and results in their overall development.
  • Help them build focus, concentration and strength through sports games.
  • Playing games enhances their strength & stamina amongst children.
  • Sports & games also help reduce stress in the children, for better results in studies as well.
  • The trainings will help the teachers and the children practice & gain confidence.
  • Sports help enhance teamwork amongst students and that is very useful for developing sense of leadership in them.
  • First Aid training for teachers and its usage for children in schools.
  • Train them for monitoring key parameters of fitness of children – running speed, jumping length, height/weight parameters etc.

INTEGRAL EDUCATION AND SCIENCE WORKSHOP

Sri Aurobindo believed that the focus of Science should be to openly search for and examine non-material, rational system of thoughts rather than insist on forcing the facts into the old material formula. His focus was on looking at Science in a more holistic and integral light. To create and expand this understanding of Science, Sri Aurobindo Ashram Delhi Branch proposes to initiate ‘Integral Education and Science’ Workshop to help teachers from the rural schools develop new skills, inquiring minds, curiosity about science and instill confidence in them about the subject.

The aim of this program is to facilitate the rural schools with interactive Science equipment and an extensive training program for teachers to help more and more students to develop conceptual understanding about science through practical and experimental learning. Science kits in the range of Rs. 25,000 - 30,000 will be given to each rural school, which can be used in their schools post the workshop.

Our Focus Areas:

  • To help experience the theoretical concepts through various engaging activities and sessions.
  • To promote analytical, critical and creative thinking to solve problems and make decisions in a more scientific context.
  • To describe and evaluate the benefits and limitations of Science as well as scientific applications and their effects on life and society.
  • To help develop skills of scientific inquiry to design and carry out scientific experiments as well as evaluate scientific evidence to draw conclusions.

INTEGRAL EDUCATION AND MATHEMATIC WORKSHOP

True education, according to Sri Aurobindo, is imparted by life itself. As per his concept of integral education, the curriculum designed to impart mental education must not be confined to a limited syllabus or a few textbooks. We should teach children to enjoy reading, which is both instructive and attractive. A child should read anything that awakens and pleases his imagination. But sadly, most of the schools in rural India have no libraries as they run on shoestring budgets.

Sri Aurobindo Ashram Delhi Branch proposes to create a new story for children studying in rural schools by conducting specialized workshop for teachers on library management and story telling. The workshop will transform empty shelves or rooms into wonder filled libraries and train teachers to inculcate good reading habits in their students by exposing them to a large array of storybooks and other reading materials.

At the end of the workshop, each school will be provided Teaching Learning Material (TLM) Kits & books worth Rs. 25,000-30,000 so that they can carry out similar exercises in their respective schools.

SUPPORTING AND PROMOTING EDUCATION

Education not only widens our horizons but also aids us in becoming complete individuals. Keeping this perspective in mind, Sri Aurobindo Ashram - Delhi Branch started its Sponsorship Scheme with the sole aim of uplifting the under privileged children by arming them with the most precious tool - Education. The focus of this scheme is mainly on the children from remote, tribal, rural and hilly areas of India. All expenses for these children including tuition, boarding, lodging, training, books, clothes, travel expenses, etc. are borne by the Sri Aurobindo Ashram-Delhi

Branch. In past few years, we have been supporting more than 300 children each year with school education and 50 youths each year for skill training.
